ChutShelChaim started with one goal, tzitzit that looks as good as the mitzvah deserves.

That search led us to second-hand fabric, clothing with real character, already broken in, full of potential. So that’s the idea behind everything we make, the mitzvah of tzitzit combined with the style hiding in second-hand cloth. Every garment is upcycled by hand, cut, hemmed, and tied knot by knot into something new.

חוט של חיים A thread of life. Jerusalem, city centre.

  1. 1Cleaned. A garment that had stopped being worn is washed and set aside instead of thrown out.
  2. 2Cut. The corners are squared so the strings can hang the way the mitzvah asks.
  3. 3Hemmed. By hand, so the holes hold for years of wear.
  4. 4Tied. Eight strings, five double knots, thirty-nine windings. Every one by hand.
